Did Obama Say Iran Has Right to Nuclear Power?
Did he really say that?
It took him awhile to get there, but in the video above President Barack Obama implied that rogue nation Iran has a right to nuclear power. His exact words were, “Without going into specifics, what I do believe is that Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations. On the other hand, the international community has a very real interest in preventing a nuclear arms race in the region.”
Conservatives are up-in-arms, but Obama said nothing new. In Prague last month, he said America would “support Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy with rigorous inspections. That is a path that the Islamic Republic can take. Or the government can choose increased isolation, international pressure, and a potential nuclear arms race in the region that will increase insecurity for all.” He added that “Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile activity poses a real threat, not just to the United States, but to Iran’s neighbors and our allies.” (Source)
Earlier this month, Obama said he wanted to meet with Iran by the end of the year and talk about its nuclear ambitions. Given Iran’s history of surreptitious activity and refusing inspections, why is our president speaking as though Iran’s willing to have a reasonable conversation about nuclear “energy”?
