Where is Star Wars Missile Defense Today?

Reagan's Insight into the Need for Star Wars Missile Defense
President Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative was designed to get America moving down the path to creating not only star wars missile defense systems, but land and sea based installations as well. He saw that the threat of nuclear proliferation was real, and that in the long run, it wouldn't be just America and the Soviet Union, now Russia, who would have nuclear capabilities. Reagan knew that other nations would become players in the nuclear club, and that the potential for many hostile nations to the U.S. would emerge with nuclear weapons and would use them to deter and bully their closest neighbors and the world at large. Since ICBM's (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles) travel through space to reach their points of detonation, Reagan knew it was in space that America would have to develop sophisticated star wars missile defense capabilities to eliminate any incoming ballistic missile threat to the U.S.

Now, over 25 years after Reagan's SDI plan was introduced, the U.S. finds itself in a situation where it is more critical now than ever before to not only maintain the existing star wars missile defenses, as well as land and sea-based installations, but continue to add more installations in the U.S. and around the world. Reagan was rightthe nuclear threat is from many sources around the world who now have nuclear weapons capabilities. The U.S. and Russia showed great restraint toward each other because there was a policy of mutual destruction in place between the two nations. This is no longer the case. New terrorist groups and the rogue nations that support them do not care about mutual destructionthey don't care if they live or die, they just want to attack the U.S. and its allies around the globe. Their rogue tendencies mean that if they are able to get their hands on a nuclear device, they will seek ways to use it. They do not fear the consequences.

The Importance of Star Wars Missile Defense in Today's World
Nations like North Korea, who have nuclear weapons, and others like Iran, who are aggressively seeking nuclear weapons, will stop at nothing to use these weapons and technologies to terrorize the world. The U.S. must continue research and development on the latest innovations in star wars missile defense to stop any incoming threat to the U.S. and its allies.
